WASHINGTON, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday endorsed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for re-election, nine days before Israel's parliamentary elections. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said he was giving Netanyahu his "Complete and Total Endorsement" in the upcoming election.
Three years ago, Israel suffered the worst attack in its history. On Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas-led gunmen killed nearly 1,200 people and took 251 people hostage. Some called it a pogrom. It shattered any sense of security Israelis had.
On Oct. 27, Israelis will cast their votes in a process that will determine who is prime minister and who sits in the 120-seat parliament, the Knesset. Since the country’s founding in 1948, there have been 14 prime ministers and 25 parliaments.
